Alcohol Free Living

I am passionate about helping people remove alcohol from their lives in order to reach their full potential. I use an empathetic and collaborative approach using evidence-based and holistic best practice to achieve your alcohol-free living goals.

MY VISION

MY MISSION

My mission is to support people to assess their relationship with alcohol, untangle from drinking culture, enhance their motivation and achieve balance and peace in their lives. This is done by empowering them to access the intrinsic motivation to achieve optimal well-being, foster resilience, develop new skills and coping mechanisms, while creating a supportive and inclusive community.

VALUES

Empowerment: I strive to empower individuals to take and active role in their own well-being, promoting self-efficacy and a sense of control over their choices and ultimately their lives.

Confidentiality & Trust: I uphold the highest standards of confidentiality to create a safe and trusting environment where peoplefeel secure in sharing their thoughts and feelings.

Resilience: I encourage the development of resilience as a key component of mental health and well-being, helping people to navigate challenges and bounce back from adversity.

Growth & Evolution: Inspiring people to commit to engaging in practices that will ultimately result in learning new ways of being.

I am a 43-year-old mother of two living in Dublin, Ireland and I gave up drinking alcohol on the 4 th of July, 2018. I consider myself a Grey Area Drinker. The relatively new term “Grey- Area Drinking” describes people who consume more than a moderate amount of alcohol but don't meet the criteria for dependence or Alcohol Use Disorder. Outwardly, there doesn’t appear to be a problem, but inwardly alcohol feels very destructive. For Grey Area Drinkers, drinking alcohol has become problematic but not life threatening and alcohol has begun to take more than it gives.

I am adamant in the belief that changing the narrative around alcohol use can help people assess their relationship with it. I encourage people to start looking at alcohol use from a wider perspective and not the outdated and limited way of labelling people as Alcoholics or Not Alcoholics.

Having spent the last 17 years designing and delivering interventions, designing a psychoeducational programme to address alcohol use seemed like the perfect fit for my skillset. At Grey Area Drinker, I deliver workshops to people who, like myself, are Grey Area Drinkers and want to say sayonara to the sauce. I also deliver 1:1 Mentoring sessions and run weekend retreats. I like to think that I have an enthusiastic, vulnerable, relatable and fun personality and this, coupled with my background in Psychology ensures that I am fully adept at empowering lots of people to give up alcohol. I hold a BSc in Social Psychology, an MSc in Health Psychology and a Diploma in Alcohol Studies. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing and as a Recovery Facilitator.

I have also completed Continuous Professional Development courses in Trauma Informed Practice. I have spoken on numerous podcasts detailing my relationship with alcohol, how I gave it up and how making this one change has had a seismic impact on my life. My world view is now entirely different. I have undergone an immense spiritual and emotional evolution since giving up alcohol and want to help others who are suffering the way I suffered for years at the hands of alcohol. I am passionate about promoting how transformative it is to remove alcohol from your life and am fanatical about helping people untangle from their alcohol use.

Giving up alcohol is, and will always remain the greatest achievement of my life time.

I firmly believe that you don’t have to reach rock bottom to remove alcohol from your life- I certainly didn’t.

For many people, enjoying the occasional alcoholic drink can be a harmless pleasure. However, if your drinking is becoming more frequent, this can soon spiral into a serious problem. Alcohol addiction, also known as ‘alcoholism’ or ‘alcohol use disorder' develops when someone drinks alcohol in an excessive way, leading to their body becoming dependent on alcohol in order to function on a daily basis.
